What is culture?
Collective programming of the mind
Material vs. Non-Material culture? what are some examples of these?
material culture: things in a culture that are visible
ex. Clothing, cars, stuffies, coffee mugs
Non-Material: things in a culture that aren’t visable.
ex. Language, beliefs or thoughts
What is Feild Work?
Observing and collecting information on people, cultures or the environment
What is feild notes?
These are notes taken by an Anthropologist when they are in the middle of Feild work
What are informants?
People who informs you of events or things
Ethnography
a written accounmt of a culture
What is Ethnology?
The study of people, relationships and the differences between them
Subjectivity, objectivity & Reflexivity
Subjectivity: Influenced on personal experience, bias, views and preferences
Objectivity: Freedom from bias
Reflexivity: Reflection on own biases
Different types of interviews
Structured: a interview with set questions
Semi-Structured: interviews with set up questions, but continue conversations
Unstructed: No set up questions, only conversations recorded
Informed consent
