Introduction to Anatomy and Physiology Flashcards
What is anatomy
Study of structures of the body
what is physiology
study of the functions of the body
Levels of organization from smallest to largest
chemical, cellular, tissue, organ, organ system, organism
what are the 8 characteristics of life( necessary life functions)
Maintaining boundaries, movement, responsiveness, digestion, metabolism, dispose of wastes, reproduction, growth
5 survival needs ogans require
nutrients, oxygen, water, normal body temperature, appropriate atomosperic pressure
what is homeostasis
maintenace of relitively stable internal conditions despite continuous changes in environment
what is negitave feedback
responce reduces of shuts off original stimulus
what is positive feedback
response enhances or exaggerates original stimulus.
what is the Integumantary system
Integumentary System Forms the external body covering, and protects deeper tissues from injury. Synthesizes vitamin D, and houses cutaneous (pain, pressure, etc.) receptors and sweat and oil glands.
what is the muscular system
allows manipulaion of the enviornment, locomotion, and facial expression maintains posture, and produces heat
what is the nurvous system
it responds to internal and external changes by activating appropriate muscle glands
what is the endocrine system
glands secreate hormones that regulate processes such as growth, reproduction, and nutrient use(matablism) by body cells
what is the cardiovascular system
blood vessels tranport blood, witch carries oxygen, carbon dioxide, nutrients and waiste.
what is the respiratory system
keeps blood constantly, supplied with oxigen and removes carbin dioxide the gases exchanges occur through the walls of the air sacs of the lungs
what is the Lymphatic/immunity system
Picks up fluid leaked from blood vessels and returns it to blood. Disposes of debris in the lymphatic stream. Houses white blood cells (lymphocytes) involved in immunity. The immune response mounts the attack against foreign substances within the body.
