Introduction and Pressure Sensing Flashcards
6 basic instruments
ASI VSI Artificial Horizon Turn and bank Compass Altimeter
Pressure instruments
ASI
VSI
Altimeter
Mach meter
Advantages of analogue
Can see approx indications easily
Easy to see abnormal indications easily when with a set
Good at showing rate of change
Different displays
Quantitative - digital display, numerical
Qualitative - analogue with a needle
LRU
Line replaceable unit
Standardised dimensions so it can be easily swapped e.g ADC (air data computer)
1 pascal =
1 newton per m squared
1 hpa =
100 pascals
1mb
1 bar =
1,000mb = 1,000hpa
Psi
Pounds per square inch
Isa sea level psi
14.7
Gauge pressure
Difference between the pressure measured and the atmospheric air (ambient air)
Difference between pressure and aneroid capsule
Aneroid - partially evacuated, air was sucked out of it before being sealed
Pressure - same as aneroid but has a hole inside e.g for pitot, ASI
Instrument error
Caused within the instrument e.g play with linkages, friction etc
Manoeuvre error
Caused by doing a manoeuvre and slightly changing the airflow
More significant in the pitch
Position error
Due to small modifications of the airflow caused by the position of the pitot tube
