Introduction Flashcards
If the left ventricle is filled with blood why does it muscle die if the arteries leading to it are blocked?
It has a thick muscular wall and diffusion occurs at a rate of roughly one centimetre per day
What is the problem with coronary arteries?
They are prone to atheroma which is where the lumen is narrowed due to atheromatous plaque formation
They are also end arteries meaning they have few anastomoses meaning they do not connect together much and therefore a blockage is more dangerous than in other arteries where there may be multiple vessels leading to a tissue
Layers of pericardium?
Outer surface of heart the epicardium is in fact the visceral layer of the pericardial membrane. This is separated from the parietal layer by the pericardial cavity. Outside the parietal layer is the fibrous layer
