What is HDI?
The human development index (composite). In most developing countries, caloric intake and minimum calorie thresholds are used to assess hunger and nutrition and to construct poverty lines.
Social class and health are closely connected. True or false?
True. The wealthier you are, the healthier you are.
Explain social inequalities.
Relatively long-lasting differences among individuals or groups of people.
What is intersectionality?
The interaction or combination of social factors that makes inequality more than the result of additive disadvantages, resulting in disadvantages that combine in unique ways.
What is the concept of agency?
The ability of individuals to make their own choices. Similar to free will.
What is neoliberalism?
Social and political philosophy that favors free markets and minimal government regulation.
What are some concepts of neoliberalism?
No state intervention in the economy, state bureaucracy is ineffective, markets are best to distribute wealth, no custom tax or obstacle to trade.
What is the intersectionality of Class, Age, Race, Ethnicity?
Multiple social inequalities or privileges at once. Interlocking systems of oppression. People don’t have a single identity.
What is the GINI index?
It is an index that measures the income of inequality. 0 being no inequality and 1 being maximum.
