A
  • The banquet scene is crucial and pivotal to the plot of the play as it shows the audience the guilt Macbeth is facing which causes him to become irrational and paranoid, and as a result makes those at the banquet suspicious of him.
  • By this stage of the play the deterioration of Macbeth and Lady Macbeth’s relationship has become blatantly obvious as he is no longer including her in the plans of the murder of Banquo.
  • A final reason why this is a pivotal scene is because Macbeth makes bad decisions, like believing the witches and continuing to plot the death of more people which leads him to his own gruesome death.
