sudden movement in the crust. I studied the Japan earthquake of March 11th 2011

How much did the earthquake measure? (Where was the epicentre?)
A
9.2 on the Richter scale. 80km off the east cost of Sendai.

A
It was 32km in depth, so it was shallow. It was a megathrust earthquake

Plates involved
A
the pacific plate (oceanic) collided with the Eurasian plate. The oceanic plate was pulled under. A 10 km deep trench marked the place of collision.
