Introduction Flashcards
what is the ASA status used for?
try to quantify the risk of anaesthesia with regards to the physiological status of the patient
what is ASA 1?
normal healthy animal
what is ASA 2?
mild systemic disease
what is ASA 3?
moderate systemic disease
what is ASA 4?
severe systemic disease (constant threat to life)
what is ASA 5?
moribund, not expected to survive following 24 hours
what makes up the triad of anaesthesia?
unconsciousness
analgesia
muscle relaxation
(whilst maintaining autonomic stability)
what parts of the anaesthesia triad does ACP do?
unconsciousness (sedated)
muscle relaxation
what parts of the anaesthesia triad do benzodiazepines do?

muscle relaxation
what parts of the anaesthesia triad does ketamine do?
analgesia
unconsciousness
what parts of the anaesthesia triad does propofol do?

what is balanced anaesthesia?
anaesthesia produced by safe doses of two or more agents that contribute to the total desired effect
