Software- anything that is not physical. I.e. computer programs, policy, procedures
What is the center of the SHEL model?
Liveware
What does the “H” in the SHEL model stand for?
Hardware- any physical equipment. I.e. instrumentation, ergonomics,
What does the “E” in the SHEL model stand for?
Enviornment- world around the pilot. I.e. pressurization, hot/cold, humidity
What is a pysho-motor skill and how does it apply to aviation?
We learn by doing. Piloting is a pyscho-motor skill. Thought leads to motion in judgement, rudder controls, stick skills, etc.
Who ultimately makes decisions and are central to the SHEL model?
Pilots
What is flight safety?
1) accident free operations
2) lack of operational mistakes
3) understanding of what makes a system safe
