Identity
Social construct - refers to our sense of self in relation to others.
Gender
Socially constructed - describes the ways in which we are expected to behave in terms of sex - norms and values
Sexuality
Identity, attraction and experiences - straight, gay, bi, trans, etc
Class
A broad group of people who share similar economic situation such as occupation, income and ownership of wealth
Life chances
Life expectancy, education, income, housing type, health, illness, etc
Minorities
A small group within main culture that has different national or cultural traditions and different norms and values to the main group
Ethnicity
Belonging to a social group with common national culture and tradition
Age
Socially constructed to an extent - how we are supposed to behave in regards to age - norms and values
Disability
Socially constructed: A consequence of an impairment that may be physical, cognitive, mental, sensory, emotional, developmental or some combination of these. May be present from birth or occur during a person’s lifetime
Nationality
Socially constructed through symbols such as flags, anthems, rituals and national holidays and festivals. An imagined community where members may never meet.
