Intro to the Module Flashcards
What is the term when the brain can ‘lie’ to you?
Hallucinations.
How can the brain affect patient interactions?
Impacts patients interactions - misremembering/misinterpreting experiences/symptoms
What is the cortex important for?
Very important for everyday complex tasks (function, memory, etc.)
What can the brain be divided into?
Lobes: Parietal, frontal, occipital, temporal
What are the different views that we can look at brain anatomy?
Various anatomical views can be utilized.
What does intelligence depend on?
The number of synapses in the brain rather than the actual size of the brain.
Determined by genetics and environment (nature vs nurture).
What are the differences between human brains and animal brains?
Humans have more neurons, a thicker and larger cortex, and a greater ratio of white matter to grey matter.
Are all brains the same?
All brains are largely anatomically the same, but single cell molecular differences occur.
Why do differences occur in human brains?
Due to nature vs nurture and the impact of experiences (languages), lifespan, and biological/sex hormones.
