What do psychologists do?
They study how and why humans act as they do
Instead of studying how humans function in cultures or societies, psychologists focus on the individual, and the personal and unique experiences that influence how the individual acts and thinks

The mind is divided into two parts: the conscious and the nonconscious We behave a certain way from our past experiences and subconscious thoughts

Behaviourists believe that we can predict, control or modify human behaviour by manipulating factors & understanding what motivates human behaviour.
Learning Theory
Social learning theorists believe that a social element is also involved, where people can learn new information and behaviours by watching other people.
Psychodynamic psychology
- uncovering patients’ unconscious thoughts by encouraging them to discuss their background, feelings and experiences
Behavioural psychology -
studies how individuals react to their environment, and the exposure to stimuli
Cognitive psychology -
studies of mental processes involved in memory, learning and thinking
Humanist psychology -
people are responsible for their lives and actions and have the freedom and will to change their attitudes and behaviour
Developmental psychology - the study of how humans develop over the course of their life
