What is the difference between Change and Extra?

A

A Change is a deletion, alteration, or addition that the Owner wants to effect
If addition or alteration, it must be
- of a similar nature
- within place of work or immediately adjacent

If it does not meet above criteria, then it is Extra Work

A

Change

  • mandatory for Contractor to comply and Owner to issue to Contractor
  • Change order must be issued
  • Payment negotiated or falls back to Force act

Extra Work

  • Optional for both parties
  • Contractor does not have to provide quote
  • Owner can deal with others
  • If awarded to Contractor, Change Order must be issued
  • If others, Contractor mus co-ordinate
