Intro to Endodontics Flashcards
6 basic steps in endodontic treatment?
- access opening
- working length determination
- Instrumentation (cleaning and shaping)
- preparation of obturation
- obturation
- coronal seal
What is the root Canal System?
Area of the tooth which houses the dental pulp
What is the pulp chamber?
found in the crown of the tooth
What is the roof of the pulp?
Most coronal aspect of the pulp chamber
What is the floor of pulp chamber?
In roots with more than one canal, the cervical extent of the chamber
What are pulp horns?
projections of pulp from the pulp chamber toward cusp tips
What is the Canal orifice?
opening of a canal form the pulp chamber into the root
What is a root canal?
Area of the pulp within the root or roots
What are accessory or lateral canals?
Canals which branch off the main canal and exit away from the apical foramen
How often is accessory or lateral canals in the apical third of a tooth?
74%
What is the apical foramen?
where pulp exits from the root apex
What is apical contriction?
narrowest part of the root canal near the apex (not always present)
Where does a root canal filing terminate?
apical constriction of root canal
Is there always symmetriy with a canal and shape of the root?
YES! great thing to know
What is this showing
Law of symmetry
