Intro to derm- Innervation & vascular supply Flashcards
What blood supply does the epidermis receive and how?
it receives blood supply from nearby deep and superficial plexus but this doesn’t not cross into the epidermis
What provides blood supply to the papillary dermis, reticular dermis and hypodermic?
In the same order, the superficial papillary plexus, reticular plexus and subcutaneous plexus.
What type of innervation is found in eccrine and apocrine glands? What is the difference between these glands?
Apocrine glands are only found in axilla, groin and nipples. They have free (non-encapsulated) innervation.
What is the difference between corpuscular and free afferent nerves?
Corpuscular are encapsulated receptors and free aren’t.
What is the function of Meissner’s corpuscle? Where is it most commonly found?
tactile corpuscles- for light touch and slow vibration. It is most abundant in thick hairless skin (ie finger-ads and lips)
What is the function of Ruffini corpuscles? Where is it most abundant? How is it shaped?
Detects skin stretch, shaped like a spindle and found around fingernails (monitors slippage of objects)
What is the function of Pacinian corpuscle? Where is it found? What is its shape?
to detect deep touch and detects surface texture. It is found in papillae of hands and feet and has an oval shape
What is the function of a Merkel cell? How is it shaped? Where is it found?
Detect sustained light touch, are oval shaped and are most abundant in fingertips
Which modalities involve A-beta fibres?
light touch, touch, pressure and vibration
Which modalities involve A-gamma fibres?
pressure, touch and pain
Which modalities involve C fibres’
temperature
