Q

What are the collocation data centers?

A

They are large facilities, built to accommodate multiple businesses. Each business rents its own space within data center. It is possible to feel the space with proprietary IT equipment, or to rent some part of it from the co-locator.

Q

What are the pros and cons of the collocation data centers?

A

Pros: steel high control on the IT equipment and operational environment, no need of data center design skills, lower capital investment, staff dedicated to guarantee operation and shared costs for high-quality environment

Cons: data center is not an asset anymore, restrictions on maintenance access with regards to time and resources, IT equipment purchase and updates are on your own

Q

What are the managed hosting platforms or third party data centers?

A

VR data centers managed by a third-party, the business does not own or control the data center. The customer rents IT equipment and infrastructure it needs. Resources are not shared, still a single tenant solution.

Q

Thinking of the compute continuum as in the slides (graph with RAM versus computation speed up) where are the data centers? And what are the pros and cons of it?

A

They are at the Top right side of the graph, what we’re presents a big computation split up and a big RAM.

Pros: lower IT costs, high-performance, instant software updates, unlimited storage capacity, increased data reliability, universal data access, device independence

Cons: require a constant Internet connection, do not work well with low speed connections, hardware features might be limited, privacy and security issues, high power consumption, latency in making decision

12
Q

Where is the Internet of things in the computation speed up and RAM graph compared to the other options in the computing continuum?

A

It is on the bottom left of the graph. it has a lower computation speed up and RAM if compared to any other computing infrastructure in the computing continuum

Q

Where are the embedded PCs in the computation speed up versus RAM graph?

A

It is in the left between Internet of things and PC. It offers a computation speed up and RAM capacity higher than the Internet of things devices, but lower than Fog/edge and data centers.

16
Q

What is the key difference between fog and edge computing?

A

Where did data is processed. In edge computing the data is processed closest to the sensors (component producing data). In fog computing, the computing is moved to processors linked to a local area network

17
Q

What are the pros and cons of the fog/edge computing?

A

Pros: high computational capacity, distributed computing, privacy and security, reduced latency in making a decision

Cons: require a power connection, require connection with the cloud

18
Q

How is the surroundings of a data center related to the choice of the place to host it?

A

The fact that this surroundings are empty, makes possible to the data center to expand

19
Q

What are some physical characteristics of the building that hosts the data center that are related to the optimization of the temperature

A

The fact that the servers are on the same floor and the color of the building

20
Q

When we talk about the limitations of the hardware features in a data center what does it means?

A

It means that the third-party that offers the service may not have a very broad variety of different computer architectures

21
Q

Explain the security problem in the cons of the data center

A

Since we store data abroad, we need to transfer it what may cause leaks
