Intro Into the Human Body And Homeostatsis Flashcards
What are the Levels of structural organisation?
Chemical-cellular-tissue-organ-system-Organism
Memory tip
Crazy cells turn over some oranges.
What is the smallest level of structural organisation in the human body?
The chemical level-includes atoms and molecules like water and proteins.
What is the cellular level?
It’s the level where the basic units of life (cells)exist, like muscle or nerve cells.
What defines the tissue level?
Groups of similar cells that work together to perform a specific function.
There are 4 types:epithelial, connective, muscle and nervous.
What makes an organ at the organ level?
A group of organs that work together to perform a major body function e.g cardiovascular system
What is the organism level?
The complete living human-all systems working together to maintain life and homeostasis
Define homeostasis
Homeostasis is the process by which the human body maintains a stable environment despite changes in the external environment.
Why is homeostasis important.
Because it allows the body’s cells and organs to function properly.
Definition of anatomy
Study of body parts,Structure of the human body
What are the 3 main components of a negative feedback loop?
Receptor (senses change)
Control centre (processes info)
Effector(produces response)
Define physiology
The function of the body and how it works
What is the main purpose of a negative feedback loop?
To reverse change and bring the body back to homeostasis
What hormone raise blood glucose levels when it gets too low?
Glucagon
What lowers blood glucose levels?
Insulin.
In the body temperature regulation, what are the two effectors that help cool the body?
Sweat glands (produce sweat)
Blood vessels (vasodilation)
What organ is responsible for regulating blood glucose
The pancreas
Name one buffer system that helps regulate the PH in the body
The bicarbonate buffer system
