INTRO Flashcards
PHASES of Healing
Inflammatory
Fibroplastic
Maturation
Inflammatory
3-4 days post injury
protect, localize, prepare for healing
Norepinephrine
Histamine
Leukotaxin
Vasoconstriction- limits blood loss
Vasodilation
Vasodilation
Clotting process
platelets stick together, clotting CASCADE- stop of blood loss, FIBRIN patch- formation of scab
Fibroblastic Repair
2-3 days, 2 phases 1) granulation 2) Fibroblastic
granulation phase
growth of new tissue, new blood vessels, creation of fibrous tissue
Fibroblastic Phases
fibrin clot forms Granulation Tissue (framework for tissue to grow), accelerated collagen production,
weak pink immature scar
Maturation Remodeling Phase
3 wk-2 year, granulation tissue is replaced by new collage, tissue heals according to stress placed on it, Type III collagen replaced by Type I collagen
Cartilage Healing
Articular- little healing ability
Fibrocartilage- 3 zone. RED- Great heal, RED/White- ok heal, White- no heal
Nerve Healing
PNS vs CNS
PNS- once dead no regenerate, regenerate from partial tearing, 2-4mm a day
Fracture Healing
1) Acute: 1 wk, hematoma forms, soft callus forms
2) Repair: 8-12 weeks, soft to hard callus, cartilage to bone (wk 3)
3) Remodeling: callus is replaced by trabecular bone, Wolff’s law
Angiogenesis-
creating new blood vessel in injured area
