intro Flashcards
Human evolutionary biology is part of
physical anthropology
Physical anthropology studies the biological evolution of
humans and human ancestors, the relationship of humans to other organisms, and patterns of biological variation within and among human populations.
Physical anthropology is a subfield of anthropology.
Other subfields of anthropology includes
archaeology, cultural anthropology, linguistic anthropology.
Anthropology is concerned with determining what
humans are, how they evolved, and how they differ from one another.
Archaeology is the study of
cultural behaviors in the historic and prehistoric past using the material remains (artifacts) that people leave behind.
Cultural anthropology is concerned with
variation in the culture of living human groups, and includes studies of social, political, economic, and ideological aspects.
Linguistic anthropology is the study of
human speech and language, particularly with regard to the connection between language and culture.
Scientific method is a
set of practices that lead to justifiable knowledge about nature.
Evolutionary theory is a
scientific explanation for the living and extinct diversity of life on Earth.
Humans are members of the mammalian
Order Primates and are most closely related to the African chimpanzee and bonobo.
There is an extensive collection of
fossil human ancestors and close relatives from the last seven million years.
Humans are all biologically very similar to each other, but
history, the environment, and cultural practices have biological consequences.
