Q

Receptor process

A
  1. environmental stim
  2. light is reflected and transformed
  3. receptor processes (rods and cones)
    - sensory receptors - cells specialized to respond to environmental energy with each sensory’s system receptors specialized to respond to specific stim

Q

Neural processing

A
  1. receptor cells -> subcortical brain areas -> cortical brain areas -> other brain areas
    - signals are transmitted from receptors to the brain and changed along the way
    - intracortical processing transforms sensory data into percepts

Q

Difference between sensation and perception

A

sensation - sensory processes detect info from the physical world and transform into biological signals from the brain
perception - signal unified awarness of a stimulus that arises from sensation produced by our sensory systems; which gives meaning to the detected sensation
