Intrinsic Muscles of the Hand - Central Compartment Flashcards
What are the attachments of adductor pollicis?
O: oblique head - bases of 2nd, 3rd and 4th metacarpals, trapezoid and capitate
Transverse head - anterior surface of shaft of 3rd metacarpal
I: medial side of base of proximal phalanx
What are the attachments of the 1st palmar interosseous muscle?
O: shaft of 1st metacarpal
I: via DDE of extensor pollucis longus into medial side of base of proximal phalanx - with adductor pollicis
what is the DOF of adductor pollicis?
oblique head - inferolaterally
transverse head - horizontally
what is the DOF of the 1st palmar interosseous?
inferiorly
what is the nerve supply to adductor pollicis?
deep branch of the ulnar nerve - C8, T1
what is the nerve supply to the 1st palmar interosseous muscle?
deep branch of the ulnar nerve - C8, T1
what is the action of the adductor pollicis muscle?
adduction of the 1st CMC joint
late stage opposition
what is the action of the 1st palmar interosseous muscle?
adduction of the 1st CMC joint
Assists flexion of 1st MCP
what are the attachments of the dorsal interossei?
O: bipennate - originate on adjecent on the sides of adjacent metacarpals
I: DDE and proximal phalanx of the appropriate finger
what is the function of the dorsal interossei?
abduct the index, middle and ring fingers
Nerve supply of the dorsal interossei
ulnar nerve T1
Shape and DOF of dorsal interossei
bipennate muscle - inferiorly
pass posteriorly to the deep transverse metacarpal ligament
Attachments of the palmar interossei
O: 1st and 2nd originate on medial side of respective metacarpals
3rd and 4th originate on lateral side of ring and little finger respectively
I: DDE and base of proximal phalanx of the same digit
Action of the palmar interossei
adduct all digits except the middle finger
what is the nerve supply of the palmar interossei
ulnar nerve T1
