Intrinsic Back Muscles, Superficial & Intermediate Flashcards
Superficial intrinsic back muscles?
Serratus posterior, splenius
Intermediate intrinsic back muscles? (3)
Iliocostalis, Longissimus, Spinalis
Origin of the Serratus posterior superior?
Nuchal ligament; spinous process of C7-T3
Insertion of Serratus posterior superior?
2nd-4th ribs (superior borders)
Innervation of Serratus posterior superior?
Spinal nn. T2-T5 (anterior rami)
Action of Serratus posterior superior?
Elevates ribs
Origin of Serratus posterior inferior?
Spinous process of T11-L2
Insertion of Serratus Posterior Inferior?
8th-12th ribs (inferior borders, near angles)
Innervation of Serratus posterior inferior?
Spinal nn. T9-T12 (anterior rami)
Action of Serratus Posterior Inferior?
Depresses ribs
Origin of Splenius capitis?
Nuchal ligament; spinous process of C3-C7
Insertion of Splenius Capitis?
Occipital bone (lateral superior nuchal line; mastoid process)
Innervation of Splenius Capitis?
SPinal nn. C1-C6 (posterior rami, lateral branches)
Action of Splenius Capitis?
Bilaterial: extends cervical spine and head
Unilateral: flexes and rotates head to the same side
Origin of SPlenius cervicis?
SPinous processes of T3-T6
Insertion of Splenius cervicis?
Transverse process of C1-C2
