Lateral/Posterior Cervical Muscles Flashcards
Insertion of descending trapezius?
Clavicle (lateral one third)
Innervation of descending trapezius?
Motor: accessory n. (CN XI)
Pain and proprioception: cervical plexus (C2, C3
Action of the descending trapezius?
Draws scapula obliquely upward, rotates glenoid cavity superiorly
Origin of Sternal head of sternocleidomastoid?
Sternum (manubrium)
Origin of clavicular head of sternocleidomastoid?
Clavicle (medial one third)
Insertion of sternocleidomastoid?
Temporal bone (mastoid process), occipital bone (superior nuchal line)
Innervation of sternocleidomastoid?
Motor: accessory n. (CN XI)
Pain & Proprioception: cervical plexus, (C2-C3)
Action of sternocleidomastoid? (bilateral + unilateral)
Bilateral: extends head, aids in respiration when head is fixed
Unilateral: Tilts head to same side, rotates head to opposite side
Origin of anterior scalene?
C3-C6 (anterior tubercles of transverse processes)
Insertion of anterior scalene?
1st rib (scale tubercle)
Origin of middle scalene muscles?
C1-C2 (transverse processes), C3-C7 (posterior tubercles of transverse processes)
Insertion of middle scalene muscle?
1st rib (posterior to groove for subclavian artery)
Origin of posterior scalene muscle?
C5-C7 (posterior tubercles of transverse process)
Insertion of posterior scalene muscle?
2nd rib (outer surface)
Innervation of scalene muscles?
Direct branches from cervical and brachial plexuses (C3-C8)
