Transverso-Spinalis Muscles

Multifidus

A

Group of small muscles that connect from the Transverse process to the spinous process ( they look kind of like a ladder ).
From L5 - C2
This muscle plays an important role in stabilization of the Vertebral Column together with the Abdominal muscles.

A

The most prominent in the thoracic region.

A

Interspinales & Intertransversi
Present mostly in Lumbar and cervical region.
Important with extension of the head and propriocepsis ( which is realizing the position of the body; stimuli )

A

These muscles are covered by the Thoracolumbar Fascia ( clearly visible in the lower back ).
Spinalis is more Laterally
Longissimus is Intermedially
Spinalis is Medially
