Intracranial Pressue Flashcards
1
Q
Intracranial pressure
A
Management of haemorrhage, infection, inflammation when intracranial pressure is greater than 20mmhg.
As a result of elevated ICP, blood flow to the cerebral tissue is diminished. This elevation in arterial pressure to overcome ICP manifests as cushings triad.
2
Q
Symptoms
A
N&V Headache Confusion Pupillary changes Muscle weakness Irritability Decreased GCS
3
Q
Cushings triad
A
Hypertension and widening pulse pressure
Bradypnea
Bradycardia
4
Q
Drugs used: osmotic diuretic
A
Increases blood osmolality by drawing excess fluids from the extracellular spaces around the tissues. I’m brain inflammation, excess fluid can be drained.
