Intracranial Cerebrovascular Flashcards
The carotid siphon is separated into 3 parts. What are they?
Parasellar (inferior)
Genu
Supraclinoid (superior)
First branch off the ICA?
Ophthalmic
What artery communicates with the ECA and ICA?
Opthalmic– can serve as collateral pathways with ipsilateral ICA disease
Branches of the OA?
Supraorbital
Frontal
Nasal
Angle of insonation with TCD?
0
When doing TCD, do we use PSV?
No, we use TAMV. Time-average mean velocity
Most of the exam you will have the patient supine, however, you may need to turn the patient into ______ to see the vertebrobasilar system
RLD or LLD
What are the transcranial Doppler windows?
Transorbital
Transtemporal
Suboccipital
Submandibular
What arteries are seen through the transtemporal window?
MCA ACA PCA MCA/ACA Bif tICA
What arteries are seen through the transorbital window?
CS
OA
What arteries are seen through the subocciptal window?
R/L VA
BA
What arteries are seen through the submandibular window?
Used to insonate the extracranial ICA just before entering the skull. Used to get the velocities for the MCA/ICA ratio for vasospasm and hyperemia
