Q

how does a glucocorticoid work?

A
  • glucocorticoid is bound to a heat shock protein (HSP)
  • the HSP dissociates from the glucocorticoid to allow cortisol to bind
  • this forms a cortisol-GR dimer (2 cortisol-GR complexes bound together)
  • the dimer is able to pass through the nucleus membrane and bonds to the glucocorticoid response element
  • this increases gene transcription

Q

how does the thyroid hormone receptor work?

A
  • T3 is delivered to the cell bound to a binding globulin
  • T3 diffuses across the plasma membrane into the nucleus
  • T3 binds to the thyroid hormone receptor
  • increases gene transcription
