Intracellular Receptors Flashcards
1
Q
what are examples of intracellular receptors?
A
steroid receptors
2
Q
what is an example of a steroid receptor?
A
-cortisol receptor (glucocorticoid)
3
Q
how does a glucocorticoid work?
A
- glucocorticoid is bound to a heat shock protein (HSP)
- the HSP dissociates from the glucocorticoid to allow cortisol to bind
- this forms a cortisol-GR dimer (2 cortisol-GR complexes bound together)
- the dimer is able to pass through the nucleus membrane and bonds to the glucocorticoid response element
- this increases gene transcription
4
Q
how does the thyroid hormone receptor work?
A
- T3 is delivered to the cell bound to a binding globulin
- T3 diffuses across the plasma membrane into the nucleus
- T3 binds to the thyroid hormone receptor
- increases gene transcription
5
Q
what do lipid soluble agonists bind to?
A
-to cystolic receptors that migrate to nucleus
or
-binds directly to nuclear receptors
