intra coronal restoration Flashcards
what is a stainless steel crown
is a metal ca[ that covers the whole primary tooth to protect it
what are the contraindications for a SSC
ALLERGIES TO CHROME OR NICKEL
what are the advantages of ssc
easy to place
durable
long lasting
what are the indications for SSC
primary molars with extensive caries over two surfaces following pulp therapy developmental defects abutment for as space maintainer rampent caries fractured tooth bruxism
what equipment do we need for SSC
crowns
contouring pliers
crimping pliers
crown scissors
how do we prepare the tooth
with LA
CHECK VERTICAL- CANINE HEIGHT PRE REDUCTION
rubber dam
remove caries and reduce crown height by 1-1.5mm
medial and distal reduction
place the crown lingual to buccal - the gum will blanch when seated correctly
cement with GIC cement or polycarboxylate cement
check occlusion- OVD can adapt by 2mm but make sure the pt is warned that it’ll feel high
how long will the crown last
usually when the tooth exfoliates itself
what are the issues with SCC
allergy to nickel/chrome
can be an issue with bruxism
pulp inflammation
what is the hall technique
providing spacers 3-5 days pre appt
no LA
no decay removal but seal the caries in
when do we use the hall technique
for asymptomatic its
what is the longevity of the SSC
in a study in 1990 by Roberts and sheriff studied 460 SCC for 4 years and only 10 failures therefore 3% failure rate
indications for strip crowns
→ Extensive or multi surface caries in primary incisors
→ Congenitally malformed primary incisors
→ Congenitally discoloured primary incisors
→ Primary incisors discoloured after trauma
→ Fractured primary incisors
Amelogenesis imperfecta
if the caries is not as extensive what can we use instead of strip crowns
cellulose strip
how do we do strip crowns for the primary A/Bs
- Choose the size
- Hold by the collar
- Needs to match the incisal edge
- Choose shade of resin
- Cut the collar
- Make a tiny hole to let the pressure vent out
- All caries removed with a round slow speed round bur
- Mesial and distal slices are prepared
- Trim and trial fit the teeth
- If the caries is deep add a liner
- Etch for one minute- wash and air dry
- Apply bonding agent and cure
- Fill the crown form with composite 3/4 height
- Seat filled crowns on prepared teeth
- Remove XS
- Cure composite labially and palatially
- Strip off crown form with a probe
Smoothen and polish crowns
