  • Acute onset of rapidly progressing neurological signs
  • Neurological signs + other system signs e.g. GI
  • Multifocal neurological signs - e.g. seizures + CN deficits

Supportive care

A
Often get hyperthermic - active cooling may be needed
Correct any hypoglycaemia
Try to maintain systemic BP
Monitor urine output
Oxygenation

Methods to reduce toxin absorption

A
  1. induce emesis if <2hrs and no suspicion of corrosive material. (apomorphine dogs, xylazine cats)
  2. activated charcoal
  3. IV lipid solution - can potentially remove toxins
