What were the Intolerable Acts

A

A series of laws passed by the Brittiah in response to the Boston Tea Party. They included closing the port of Boston, the King selected leaders of the colony, the Quartering Act was reinstated, more land/control was given to Quebec/France.

Why was one of the Intolerable Acts considered the Murder Act?

A

If a British soldier was blamed for a crime, he would be sent back to England for trial instead of the colonies. Many colonists beleived this was lertting the soldiers, “get away with murder.”

A

A meeting of delegates from 12 colonies. They met in secret, behind closed doors. No one was allowed to discuss details of the meeting and all colonies received one vote regardless of their size.

A

People throughout the colonies supported the colonists of Boston. Other colonies sent food, animals, and money to the people of Boston. The colonies decided to unite and meet at the 1st Continental Congress.

A

To write a petition to the King stating that the Intolerable Acts were unfair, the colonists had a right to life, liberty, and property, British soldiers were not welcome during times of peace, there should be no taxation without representaton, the colonists wanted to come to a peaceful solution with England

A

They gathered ammunition and guns, minutemen began training, the colonists fixed boats and put them near the Charles River.

A

He spotted the British warship called The Somerset and discovered the British were planning to attack by boat. He warned Capt. John Parker that the British were coming and Capt. Parker assembled the minutemen. He also warned Samuel Adams and John Hancock so that they were not captured by the British.

What happened at the Battle of Concord?

A

This time the British were outnumbered and retreated to Lexington without any of the guns they had come to confiscate. On the retreat back to Lexington, the Americans hid behind trees and fences and shot at the British soliers. At the end of the battle, 270 British troops had died and 90 Americans.
