What was the Easter rising?
When in 1916 provisional government was declared in Dublin and Republican supporters occupied major buildings, leading to British troops arresting 3,500 people and sentencing 80 to death
What was the 1920 Government of Ireland Act?
Created 2 separate parliaments for N. and S. Ireland, although it failed until 1921 when S. Ireland became a dominion as they refused to swear allegiance to the British Crown

A 1926 definition of dominion that aimed to placate Ireland and South Africa who wanted to be more independent- recognised them as autonomous communities
What was the Statue of Westminster?
A 1931 act that meant Britain could no longer legislate on behalf of the dominions in order to try and retain them- worked as only Ireland left (1937)
