Describe the medical model
pt’s role is passive -> they receive treatment and may or may not adhere to treatment plan; physician dominates the conversation and care is disease-centered
Describe the Pt-Centered model
pt’s role is active -> part of the treatment plan and collaborates w/ physician (more likely to adhere to treatment plan); physician listens more and talks less w/ care being quality of life centered
What is the sequence for Pt-Centered model?
introduce; elicit CC and set agenda; ask open ended questions (non-focused); continue w/ HPI (focused); summarize and transition

Subjective - pt’s history

AUDIT vs CAGE
AUDIT has better sensitivity than CAGE but somewhat difficult to remember/score
CAGE can open door to conversation but leads to a lot of false positives
What does CAGE stand for?

What is the max # of drinks men and women should have per week?
Women: no more than 3/day and no more than 7/week
