What is primary prevention?
A
Strategies to prevent people from acquiring a disease or experiencing a problem. Ex: Immunizations, education, screenings to identify risk factors, controlling hazards, exercise and nutrition, counseling on danger of drugs…

What is secondary prevention?
A
Mitigating harm of a condition after it’s already in place. Ex: Screening someone with risk factors (like genetics) for illness (the genes are already there - can’t change them)

A
Managing long-term consequences of an acquired condition. Ex: Pain management, support group, rehab program
