Gradually inc mm flexibility and joint mobility
Gentle strengthening
Scar management
Limit use of orthosis
Management principles - Phase 3 - title and time frame
Remodeling/Return to activity
2-6 months post injury/surgery
Management principles - Phase 3 - Description
Continued ROM as needed
Inc strength intensity (endurance too)
Check and improve biomechanics
Functional training and conditioning
Goal of Immobilization
To restrict motion
Protect joints
Force a person to rest
Possible problems with immobilization
Don’t want to be immobilized for too long - can lead to nerve adhesions
When would you want to immobilize
Suspect a fracture of dislocation or maybe they have lateral epicondylitis and you need them to rest
ROM as an Intervention
Always start gradually
Always be aware of imposed limitations set by physician
Use of manual therapy
MET, PNF, PROM, CPMs
Strengthening options for intervention
Isometrics PREs Endurance Functional activities Be aware again with any limitations set by Dr.
