Interventional Resources and Supplies Flashcards
Purpose of a 4x4 sterile Gauze
It is a type of thin fabric with a
very open weave.
Purpose:
1. Use to protect open wounds
2. Absorb bodily fluids
3. For cleaning other instruments
used during the procedure
Parts of a Syringe
Syringes – “reservoir”
PARTS:
1. Plunger – used to fill or empty the barrel with fluid
2. Barrel – part of the syringe that contains fluid
3. Hub – functions to lock the needle in
place while using the syringe
Parts of a Percutaneous Needle
Sometimes called percutaneous entry
needle.
PARTS:
1. Cannula – long hollow tube through which CM, blood, guidewire or other materials will pass
2. Hub – permits attachment of a syringe or other equipment to the needle
3. Baseplate – facilitates the puncture by allowing the angiographer to grasp the needle more securely.
Purpose of a Stylet and Obturator
Stylet – a solid, has cutting edge and inserted to the cannula of the needle.
Obturator – made of solid metal and
prevents backflow of blood through the
needle.
Both the cannula and the stylet are used
during the vessel puncture. After the
puncture, the stylet maybe removed and the
obturator is inserted into the cannula.
A small and extremely sharp
bladed instrument
Scalpel
Functions to connect one accessory
equipment to the other
Adapters
Controls the flow of a fluid from
one area to the other.
Stopcocks
A series of stopcock attached to one
another
Manifolds
Waste management lines and bags purpose?
Purpose:
1. Facilitates the safe collection of fluid waste
2. Also allows the administration of saline and contrast solutions
3. Minimizes contact withinfectious blood and bodily fluids
4. Leak resistant dual check valves
make disposal clean and easy
Patented Design with built up
lip and recessed bottom
Purpose:
Designed to hold guidewire in
place and allow easy removal
Sterile basins
Purpose of Drapes, towels and tray cover
To isolate the surgical
site from the
other areas of the patient’s
body and nonsterile areas
A drug that works
as an anticoagulant
Heparin
Provides a place to safely
park needles prior to
terminal disposal
Sharps container
What is a closed bowl that minimizes staff
and patient exposure to blood-borne pathogens
Contaminated waste container
Facilitates the introduction of
catheter over the guidewire by
dilating the path of the catheter.
Vessel Dilators
