How is methadone used to treat addiction

A

It’s a treat heroin addict’s it’s a synthetic drug which mimics the effect of heroin. It’s less addictive and it’s easier to ease someone off methadone due to it being less addictive

How is methadone used

A

You slowly increase the amount to methadone to increased tolerance and D crease heroin use when it eventually the addict no longer needs either after you’ve withdrawn both slowly

What’s a limitation of using methadone to treat heroin addict

A

It’s as addictive for some people and therefore your substituting one addiction for another. It’s also still a damaging drug and you can become addicted

How come methadone be used as part of the multicomponent treatment to stabilise behaviour

A

Is most effective when combined with other treatments such as CBT. However someone on heroin may not be motivated enough for CBT. Methadone helps this is it stabilises the mood
