Q

What is interoperability?

A

The ability of two or more health information systems to share information. It has the ability to interpret incoming data and present it as it was received, preserving its original content.

Real-time data exchange between systems without a third-party “middleware”

Q

What is integration?

A

The ability to add, mix and unite. It allows programs to share information with each other and one system can be accessed by the other.

Typically, integration requires a third party (middleware) that translates data and makes it work for the receiving system.

Integration is not a direct path for information to get from point A to point B
