What is change management?
The process of guiding organizational change to completion, from the earliest stages of conception and preparation, through implementation, and finally to resolution.
What might need changing or adjusting within an organization?
- Company culture
- Internal processes
- Underlying technology or infrastructure
- Corporate chain of command
- Another critical aspect.
What can occur without organizational change management?
Transitions can be rocky and expensive in terms of both time and resources.
What are the two types of organizational change?
- Adaptive
2. Transformational
What is adaptive organizational change?
Small, gradual changes that an organization undertakes to improve its products, processes, workflows, and strategies over time.
i.e.: Creating a new role to address increased demand, implementing a new software system, implementing a work-from-home policy.
What is transformational organizational change?
Changes that are larger in scale and scope, and often signify an extreme and unexpected departure from the status quo. i.e.:
- Developing a new process or procedure
- Creating a new department
- Deciding to expand an existing department.
What is a change agent?
A person who is well versed in theory and the implementation of planned change. Often a leader/manager, who should remain throughout the entire change process.
