IP Address
A special number assigned to any item that is connected to the Internet.
DNS
The Domain Name Service translates URLs to IP addresses.
URL
Universal Resource Locator. An easy-to-remember address for calling a web page (like www.code.org)
Internet
A global computer network providing a variety of information and communication facilities, consisting of interconnected networks using standardized communication protocols.
Servers
Hardware and software that can satisfy client requests on the World Wide Web.
Fiber Optic Cable
A connection that uses light to transmit information.
Wi-Fi
A facility allowing computers, smartphones, or other devices to connect to the internet or communicate with one another wirelessly within a particular area.
Packets
Small chunks of information that have been carefully formed from larger chunks of information.

Digital subscriber line. A family of technologies that are used to transmit digital data over telephone or cable lines.
T1 and T3
Both T1 and T3 lines establish a physical point-to-point connection between an Internet Service Provider (ISP) and the organization purchasing the connection. T3 lines are a popular choice for businesses that require the most dependable Internet connection possible.
FTP
File Transfer Protocol or FTP is a standard network protocol used to transfer files between clients and servers over the Internet.
Browser
An internet browser, also known as a web browser or simply a browser, is a software program that lets you view web pages on your computer.
Search engine
A software system that is designed to carry out web or Internet searches.
HTML
Hypertext Markup Language is the standard markup language for documents designed to be displayed in a web browser.
JavaScript
Often abbreviated as JS, is a high-level programming language that was originally used only in web browsers, but are now embedded in some servers. JavaScript is not to be confused with Java.
XML
Extensible Markup Language is a markup language that defines a set of rules for encoding documents in a format that is both human-readable and machine-readable.
TCP/IP
Transmission Control Protocol Internet Protocol. A set of rules that governs the connection of computer systems to the internet.
ISP
An Internet service provider is an organization that provides services for accessing, using, or participating in the Internet.

The Internet Browser and was released in 1994.
