International Operations Flashcards
International Operational Control:
- The DOI, ITP and Safety all review the trip
- ITP plans the trip and builds the Master Document
- ITP emails the itinerary packet 3 hours before the trip
- Crew Scheduling issues Brief and FAAD the night before
When do our passports need to be updated?
- 9 months before expiry
* Different nations have different rules
What pilot documents are required?
- Pilot certificate
- Medical
- Passport
- Immigration
- Drug and alcohol packet

What are the international / Class II fuel requirements?
• With an alternate: fly to destination, then to the furthest alternate, and 45 minutes
therafter.
• With no alternate: destination plus 2 hours fuel
• Plan a realistic MACH number and realistic altitude
• Generally FL430 works with FL 410 as the backup
What are our ETOPS limits?
• Our limit is 180 minutes.
To avoid a wet footprint:
• One engine or depressurization ETP must leave enough fuel to reach a suitable
alternate with 30 minutes reserve fuel.
When do we compute a Point of Safe Return?
• When no alternate is available
How do we apply the PSR?
• We do not proceed past the PSR without checking weather
• Note passing the PSR on the Master Document
Where do we find our international / Class II library?
• In Q Pulse or the Pilot Portal
• Q Pulse has our SELCAL codes
• iPhone has our AIRINC numbers
What US Customs procedures must we follow?
- Outbound Customs must stamp the GENDECS
- Any passenger under 18 must have a notarized letter from the absent parent(s).
- eAPIS describes passengers going in / out of the USA
- The PIC calls CANPASS 2 – 48 hours before the eta
Using the Master Document:
- First pilot checks each waypoint and notes it with a checkmark
- Second pilot crosschecks accuracy and circles the waypoint
- Upon crossing the waypoint the PM adds a slash mark over the circle
- At the 10 minute plot the GNE is checked and a second slash is added.
Using the plotting chart:
- Each plotting chart can be used twice with a new trip number
- On the title panel we record the Flight #, date, and the track message indicator (TMI).
- This is retained by company with the Master Document
How do we apply SLOP and why?
- To escape wake turbulence
- We SLOP laterally 1 or 2 miles to the right.
- Apply at the oceanic entry point.
- Must be back on course by the oceanic exit point
What is the formula for severe weather avoidance?
- EAST = left descend / right climb
* WEST = left climb / right descend
