Where are the langerhans cells located and what function do they have?
These are basically the macrophages of the stratum spinosum in the epidermis.
Which skin layer contains the basal cell keratinocytes and melanocytes?
The stratum germinavitum
Describe the two layers of the dermis
The papillary dermis
Reticular Dermis: Extends to the subcutaneous fat. Coarse elastic fibers and thick collagen bundles arranged mostly parallel to skin surface.
Anagen, Catagen, Telogen stages of hair growth
Anagen: Prologned growth
Catagen: Short lived interphase.
Telogen: Final resting phase.
Macule
Change in skin color without elevation or depression <1 cm in diameter.
Patch
Similar to macule (Flat lesion)k
Papule
Circumscribed solid elevations, 1cm in diameter
Wheal
An edematous papule
Nodule
Circumscribed solic elevation that is > 1cm
Tumor
A circumscribed solid elevation that is >2cm
Plaque
An elevation above the skin with a plateu-like surface
Vesicle
Elevated lesion <3 cm containing clear fluid
Bulla
Similar to vesicle but > 1 cm
Pustule
Similar to vesicle but filled with neutrophils and dead bacteria. Fluid is white or yellow (pus).
