Internal differences Flashcards
Revolutionary socialism
Socialism can only be brought about by the overthrowal of existing political and societal structures.
Evolutionary socialism
Socialism can be brought about gradually using the existing system; e.g. a political mandate can allow changes such as nationalisation.
Marxism
Theory developed by Marx and Engels which emphasises the transition from socialism to the final goal of communism where there is no state and no class.
Revisionism
Modifying previous socialist ideologies in a way that transforms them to being more practical in modern society.
Social democracy
Emphasis on a mixed economy under a capitalist state, social democrats believe capitalism brings about the necessary profits for social justice.
Third way
Middle-ground where capitalism is bolstered to make profits for a welfare state.
Democratic socialism
This argues for socialism to be achieved through either evolutionary or revolutionary means, however when it is achieved it must immediately be centred around democracy.
