What is a PMP
suite of plans and processes. size, complexity of project will influence format and content. captures fundamentals needed to deliver project successfully.
PMP content 8
what (scope, deliverables created to satisfy requirements, acceptance criteria assumptions), why (reference business case, justify, benefits), where, who (OBS RAM), when (gantt chart, key milestones), how (all the plans), how much (project budget, EV arrangement), agreement (deployment baseline)
PMP contents split 2 ways
policies and procedures (reference docs) and schedules and logs (working docs). e.g issue/change control/quality/resource/stakeholder/communication management plan v log, register analysis etc
why is PMP important?
- Communication tool (working document which is up to date and visible to everyone). 2. baseline deployment (measure progress against it) 3. Basis for audits and reviews. 4. contract between PM and sponsor on what. 5. provide mechanism for continuity, knowledge isn’t lost if staff leave.
PMP as deployment baseline
- end of defiition PMP is set in stone. 2.regularly reviewed. 3. any changes, communicate that. 4. used as basis for audits and reviews
