- patients may be given medication without psychological therapy

Strength of interactionalist treating
A
Tarrier 315 patients randomly allocated to different treatment
- patient in treatment groups showed lower symptom levels than those in control group
- suggesting interactionalist has better outcomes

Weakness of interactionalist treatment
A
- treatment causation fallacy
- just because using range of treatments is effective, doesn’t mean interactionalist approach is correct
- because we don’t know how diathesis stressors interact, we don’t know why combining treatments is effective
- questioning validity of adopting this approach
