Interaction of Systems Flashcards
Explain the pulmonary system.
Pulmonary system exchanges oxygen and CO2 in blood.
Deoxygenated blood comes from the heart via the pulmonary artery.
CO2 is taken from blood and oxygen is taken into blood via the hemoglobin
Oxygenated blood returns to the heart via the pulmonary veins
Explain how oxygenated blood is distrubuted
Blood travels through the aortic arch which has 3 branches that go up to the head and arms
Aortic arch travels downwards and becomes the thoracic artery
Thoracic artery splits into the Renal artery (to the kidney) and the iliac artery (for the lower half)
Explain how deoxygenated blood is returned to the heart
Deoxygenated blood is transported from the renal vein (kidney), iliac vein (legs and thighs), hepatic (liver)
The 4 veins combine into the inferior vena cava
Superior vena cava transports deoxygfenated blood from the upper body
Explain how nutrients are circulated throughout the body
Nutrients get absorbed mainly in the small intestine
The lymphatic system allows for the transport of fats and oils
Sugars, proteins, vitamins and salts get absorbed into the capillaries surrounding the villi in the small intestine and
What are the signs of choking and the treatment?
Signs - cant speak - holding throat - panicking - attempting to cough - becoming unconscious - turning blue Treatment - encourage coughing - remove blockage - do not give fluids
What are the effects of excercise
Raised heart rate
increased breathing
