Treaty of Versailies
The Treaty of Versailles was signed by Germany and the Allied Nations on June 28, 1919, formally ending World War One. The terms of the treaty required that Germany pay financial reparations, disarm, lose territory, and give up all of its overseas colonies.

What did the Treaty include ?
- Germany took sole blame for the whole of ww1
- Germany had to say a sum of £6.6 billion
- Army reduced to 10,000 soldiers and 6 battleships
- loss of land e,g Rhineland was demilitarised and Alsace and Lorraine were given back to France

About the LoN
- league didn’t have its own army
- all countries to be included + involved
- no military presence on borders
- economic sanctions
How the LoN would avoid war :
- all countries encouraged to disarm
- international peace keepers
- all countries will co-operate in trade + business
- improve living and working conditions for everyone
- those defeated in ww1 can’t join till they have proven that they are seeking peace
- aggressive actions
Why did the LoN fail ?
- the needed America
- scared to take actions
- wasn’t strong as it could’ve been
- they didn’t have an army so they weren’t scared of
- the great depression
- rise of dictatorship
Pros of the LoN
- brought counties together
- gave people hope after ww1
- had good intentions- led to UN Charter
Cons of LoN
- no army, couldn’t force the rules onto counties
- felt incomplete without America
- excluding countries e.g Germany led to dictatorship
The Great Depression
worldwide economic depression that began in America in 1929 but spread around the world causing mass unemployment
