Trespass to Land
Intentional physical invasion of the plaintiff’s real property with causation.
Can recover without proving actual damages to land.
Trespass to Chattels
Intentional interference with the right of possession of plaintiff’s chattels with causation.
Actual damages need to be proven.
Conversion
Intentional interference with plaintiff’s right of possession to chattel, which is so serious as to require defendant to pay chattel’s full value, causation.
May recover FMV at time of conversion OR replevin
Types of Conversion
Wrongful acquisition, Wrongful Transfer, Wrongful Detention, Substantial Change, Substantial Damages, Misuse of the Chattel.
Subject Matter of Conversion
Tangible physical personal property or Intangible Property reduced to physical form.
