D opposed the use of nuclear weapons and was involved in a ‘sit in’ at a military base. No MR because his motive was to save the state from nuclear weapons
Chandler v DPP
D was charged with intentionally assisting the enemy during WW2 by broadcasting propaganda messages. Only complied after being beaten and having had his family threatened. D sad he had no intention to assist enemy which was required for conviction
R v Steane 1947
D shot his step father dead. Had good relationship. Both had consumed large amounts of alcohol and the step father challenged D to see who could shoot a gun fastest. D fired after being gorded but did didn’t realise he was aiming at V. Convicted because he had oblique intention.
R v Moloney
Angry miners tried to prevent colleagues returning to work. Pushed concrete block off bridge onto motorway. Killed taxi driver who was taking the miners
