When is Criteria B met?
When one domain is sufficiently impaired that ongoing support is needed
What qualifies mild ID?
50-70 IQ
Adults: Impairment in abstract thinking, exec function
Immature Social interaction
Risk of manipulation
Health Care and Legal decisions need support
Raising a family needs support.
What qualifies Moderate ID?
35-55 IQ
Conceptual skills lag behind peers through devt
Adults: Elementary academics
Work settings need sig social and communication support
Can be independant w/ time and teaching
Maladaptive behavior
What qualifies Severe ID?
20-40 IQ
Extensive support through life
from family and others
Maladaptive behavior including self injury
What qualifies Profound ID?
IQ below 20-25
Physical world rather than symbolic process
Non-verbal, non-symbolic communication
Dependant on all aspects of daily physical care

What are the Disorders associated with ID?
Heterogeneous. Many causes
Suicide risk in all mental health disorders
Down’s Syndrome: higher risk for Alzheimer’s Dementia
What is the Course of ID:
Onset before 18yo
Depends on etiology
ID is not static. can improve certain domains and functionality through training
What is the concept of Social Drift?
ID people gravitate toward lower socioeconomic class => Reproduce => Stay there
