what type of tissue is found in the subcutaneous layer of skin? what is its function
adipose tissue for thermoregulation
what are nails and hair made of?
Keratin
where is terminal hair found?
on the scalp
which type of gland is activated at puberty and located in axillae?
Apocrine glands
where are sebaceous glands located and when are they activated?
distributed though out the body and mature in 2 month old infants
What is pruritis?
Itching
What do you observe in a skin assessment?
Skin texture Pruritus Excessive bruising Rashes or lesions Medications Hair loss Freckles? Temperature? Moisture? Mucous membranes? Thickness of skin Edema Incisions Tattoos
What is necessary for skin assessment?
BRIGHT LIGHTS but sunlight is best
What do you observe when you are assessing hair?
Is it clean?
Is it evenly distributed on scalp?
Inspect scalp for lesions
What do we include in a nails assessment?
Are nails clean? Pink?
Capillary refill
Schamroff test (should form a diamond)
Nail profile
